Hello

We are from Switzerland and own a holiday house in Enontekiö. We use a telia prepaid package (for 31 days) to have internet access in the house. Now we also want to be able to access our router (FritzBox 6850 LTE) from outside. Therefore we need a public ipv4 adress. Is that possible? Do we need another internet access or a Telia Yhteyspiste?
Thank you very much for your help!

Just change the APN setting of your lte router from internet to prointernet. Then you will get a public dynamic IPv4 address.

Yhteyspiste supplementary service is not available for prepaids. It is for invoiced subscriptions only.

Hey thank you for the quick answer.

The APN setting is on Prointernet (see image).

And the IP adress is still 10.99.xx.xx (not public)

Do I need other settings?

Thank you very much for your help!

When you change the APN settings, does Fritz!box automatically disconnect from the network and reconnect?

If not, try disconnecting manually. Or just reboot the router.

I have always spelled prointernet in lowercase letters only. Though I am not sure if the case matters.

The Fritzbox does not automatically disconnect the internet connection when changing the setting.

But I restarted it manually. I also wrote prointernet in lowercase letters.

But there is no public IP address either.

The settings seem to look correct. Is there a possibility to create an entirely new APN profile within the settings of the modem and use that one? If all else fails, I suggest you contact Telia Helppi for a more hands-on assistance.

Could the "no public IP address" issue be related to an old SIM card?

Maybe it works with a new prepaid sim card?

I would not rule out that possibility, but it is highly unlikely. You can verify this by trying SIM in another device.

Hey, now we just found out that if we manually switch the router to 3G (UMTS), we get a public IP address!!!
But with 3G the connection is much slower.

What could be the solution so that it also works with 4G?

3G will soon be switched off!

Could the "no public IP address" issue be related to an old SIM card?

Yes, it could. Before spring 2021 apn prointernet worked only on 2G and 3G networks. Now it should work on 4G, too. Maybe Telia forgot to update your number’s configuration?

I think someone else had this very same problem just recently. Prointernet APN ei anna julkista IP osoitetta 4G-verkossa.

Maybe it works with a new prepaid sim card?

Most likely yes.

I have two fairly recent sim cards. One is from August 2021. The other was originally from November 2019, but the sim card was replaced in May 2023. On both of these I have used apn prointernet successfully on 4G.

There is one difference to the forementioned Prointernet APN ei anna julkista IP osoitetta 4G-verkossa case, though.

In the problem case it was Telia Prepaid Netti, which is sold for internet use. All my Prepaids are Telia Prepaid puhelimeen, ”for a phone”.

If your Prepaid happens to be the Netti variety and it dates back before summer 2021, it may well be worth getting a new Puhelimeen variety Prepaid.

What is the difference between Netti and Puhelimeen varieties, you may ask.

Prepaid Netti is simply a more expensive option than Prepaid puhelimeen. As an individual product Prepaid Netti doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Telia sells this sim also with a subsidized (Koppelungsverkauf) 4G pocket router for 54,90 €.

For all other uses, Prepaid puhelimeen makes more sense. The basic rates are a bit cheaper than with Prepaid Netti. Top up packages like 31 days unlimited 4G surf cost the same for both Prepaid Netti and Prepaid puhelimeen.

Curious. Prointernet APN should definitely work with 4G as well, so what I’d suggest you do is to contact our customer support so our specialists can take a look at the issue!

Thank you very much for the support.

We will order a new sim-card or contact the telia helpi.

Best wishes to all.

Telia Helppi is an expensive technical support service 2,50 €/call + 2,50 €/minute + abnormal phone charge. As you already know how to change the apn setting on your Fritz!box, there is no need to contact Helppi.

Faults in Telia services should be reported to the customer service, not Helppi.
