V100AP Modem Set-up Problem

Hi, I've just moved in to a VVO apartment which has the VDSL2 broadband from Sonera. I recently received my SMS telling me the connection was ready to use and tried to set up the A-LINK V100AP modem/router I bought from VerkkoKauppa.

I'm using Linux so I did like the A-LINK instructions said -- to test the internet connection -- which was to plug the computer in to the router and create a new network connection with auto DHCP enabled. However, I couldn't connect to the web although the Online, LAN1, VDSL Link, VDSL TX/RX, and AP lights were all on.

Next I tried to follow the instructions for configuring the wireless internet using the manual network connection by statically setting the IP addresses so I could access the routers settings through the browser. This worked fine and I was able to create a WLAN access point and even managed to connect my tablet to it. However, although I could connect my tablet to the network, I still couldn't get on the web.

I noticed at this point I wasn't getting a web IP address from the connection so I tried messing with the various settings in the router's settings tool, for example, turning the DHCP server on, using NAT and Dynamic IP instead of the default bridging method.

This is actually the first time I've set something like this up myself. I feel a bit uninformed about the correct way the VDSL2 service needs to be set up. There are apparently many different ways of doing it according to the router settings and I think I could have more success if I knew which it was.

If anyone has any info about this, I would be very greatful to hear it. :)

    Unfortunately it's not solved so far. Maybe useful to check progress there now and then.

    I'm the one who's trying to get this permanently solved at Finnish Ubuntu forum: http://forum.ubuntu-fi.org/index.php?topic=39549.0

    For me it is just the same if anyone gives help either in Finnish or in English. With help of ajaaskel we have managed to find out it is possible to connect directly to IP given by Sonera. However, the problem is that the IP is not static. It may change after awhile. Therefore using 'Static IP' on V100AP router is not a solution.

    It seems the problem is that 'bridging' set on V100AP does not work with Ubuntu Linux OS. I tried to switch from 'Bridged' to 'Dynamic IP' on V100AP settings using Windows machine, but that does not seem to work, at least it does not work with default V100AP settings.

    I have reported this to A-link tech service and waiting for their response. I will report their answer here if/when I get it.

    This puzzled me because I could not even open the router settings. I updated into latest firmware using Windows PC, restarted router and PC, and now it works:

    1. I now can connect to router from Ubuntu 10.04 and wired connection works through V100AP. EDIT: However, I had to switch 'Routed' into 'Dynamic IP' on V100AP settings and give 'sonera' as host name on dynamic IP settings.
    2. Wireless should work if on Ubuntu network manager you make sure the method is 'Infrastructure' and 'Automatic DHCP'.
