First off, sorry for writing in English. My mothertongue is Dutch and although I can speak and read Finnish quite ok, writing is still at beginner level so I rather use English to describe the problem correct. Feel free to respond in Finnish.

I received Sonera's Extra-C 100M/5M subscription last thursday 07/10/2010 together with the Netgear CG300D cablemodem.

The modem disconnects and reconnects to the internet twice a day upon requesting a new wan ip address from the dhcp server 10.14.252.54 at Sonera . This results in ~2 minutes downtime where all current internet applications are disconnected.

In short, everytime the router wants to renew its DHCP lease, it disconnects and reconnects. This should not happen and I wonder if there is a fault with the cable modem or the network settings at Soneras side.

Below an excerpt from the log as reference. All timestamps from router are UTC (local time -3)

Fri, 2010-10-08 11:29:45 - [Internet disconnected]

Fri, 2010-10-08 23:30:32 - [Internet disconnected]

Sat, 2010-10-09 11:31:18 - [Internet disconnected]

This will happen again at below time when the current lease expires (14:32:52 local time)

Lease Obtained 2010-10-09 23:32:52
Lease Expires 2010-10-10 11:32:52
I know this subscription can not have a static ip address and I need to use DHCP (although it seems bound to the modems mac address so it is always the same upon renewal).

I added port UDP 67 (BOOTP_CLIENT) ALLOW always to the inbound services of the firewall rules so the modem can actually accept the renewal requests.

Coincidentally, I got an SMS message 10 minutes later from 12319 stating:

"Liitymänne vika on korjattu. Käynnistäkää tarvittaessa laiitteet uudelleen. Jos ongelma kuitenkin jatkuu, ottakaa yhteyttä Soneran vikapalvelun. T. Sonera"

Amazing, for being a sunday afternoon.

I hope this is fixed now and may help some others, or its back to 45-60 mins queue to talk to helpdesk 🙂
The IP address offers from DHCP server come through every 6 hrs to the modem upon which the disconnect problem is solved.
If the IP-address has 12 hours lease time, the DHCP-client will renew the lease every 6 hours i.e. when 50% of the lease time has passed.

It's good to hear that it works now.
