[Google käännös]Hei, miten saan töihin ulkomaan roamingin Telia Finlandin prepaid SIM-kortilla?Ostimme 3 Telia Finland SIM-korttia Helsingistä. Jokainen heistä soitti ja vastaanotti puoli minuuttia puheluita Suomessa aktivoidakseen heidät täysin. Sitten palasimme Puolaan/Varsovaan.

Hi, how can I make work the roaming abroad for a prepaid Telia Finland SIM card?
We bought 3 Telia Finland SIM cards in Helsinki. Each of them made and received half a minute phone calls in Finland, in order to fully activate them. Then we came back to Poland/Warsaw. The Roaming Service should work but it doesn't. All the three Telia Finland prepaid SIM cards stopped work, while in Helsinki they were calling and answering phone calls without any problem. It's not the problem of PINs. We put them correctly. We have even turned them off. It's not the problem of the telephone models either because when we put Elisa/DNA prepaid SIM cards in these telephones, they work in Poland/Warsaw withount any problem. I called the Telia Finland Support. They promised to create a ticket on behalf of me and to call me back and solve the problem but no-one called me and all the Telia Finland prepaid SIM cards continue to be blocked... Could you help or suggest any solution, please.
Thanks in advance and kind regards.

Hi @pekadwa and welcome to Telia Yhteisö!

I am sorry to tell you, that Telia Prepaid does not work in Poland.

Telia Prepaid on abroad page says this:

Operates in the Nordics, Baltics and selected EU countries: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as well as Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy and France.

Hi @kiisseli67 and thank you very much for your message!

Does that mean that Teelia Finland Abonament works in Poland while Telia Finland Prepaid doesn’t work in Poland?

Thank you in advance for your answer and have a nice day.

@pekadwa Yes, it is true sadly 😟

Hi, @kiisseli67 - could you please suggest me one of the official Telia Employees, who might explain the situation to me, please? I’d like to officially ask them what’s the status and what are the reasons for which me as a Telia Finland Customers cannot make/receive phone calls in Poland.

From what I know, Telia Finland is obliged to provide their services in Poland, as both the countries are part of the EU.

I hope that someone from Telia Finland would join this discussion, to avoid that we must invite the Auditors from EU Institutions who protect the Customers Rights. They probably have tools to convince the Operator to turn on the possibility to make/receive the phone calls for Telia Finland Customers in Poland, using the Roaming...

Kind regards and thank you!

Hi, @pekadwa - I sent a notification about this to Telia so that someone from there would respond.

Best regards @kiisseli67 🙂

Thank you for your point of view in this case. I have brought your message and questions further to the those who lead Telia Prepaid service at Telia Finland, and I promise we’ll get back to this discussion as soon as we receive response.

From what I know, Telia Finland is obliged to provide their services in Poland, as both the countries are part of the EU.

I am sorry, but you have got EU’s roam like home regulations wrong.

European mobile phone operators are obliged not to charge more than domestic or regulated EU roaming wholesale rates while roaming in the EU. But they are not obliged to provide the roaming itself.

Another example besides Telia Prepaid and Telia Yhteys mukaan kotimaa 50 M, in the UK, even before Brexit, it was very common for mobile operators to not provide roaming at all until you had at least six or twelve months of good credit history with them.

If you require roaming in Poland, please check Telia’s invoiced Yhteys-subscriptions or credit/debit card charged Dot-subscriptions. You will need a Finnish personal identity code, henkilötunnus, though.

They probably have tools to convince the Operator to turn on the possibility to make/receive the phone calls for Telia Finland Customers in Poland

For prepaids it is unfortunately not that simple. Prepaids require real time billing, which in turn requires special procedures between mobile phone operators.

The problem is that I'm from Poland and I bought 3 prepaid SIM cards of Telia FI in Helsinki and in Finland I was using them to call and these 3 numbers are important for me, to contact many people!

After I came back to Poland/Warsaw it turned out that these 3 SIM cards stopped working... The roaming was not started at all and on the other hand, the other Finnish Operators are able to do it! The prepaid SIM cards of DNA Finland and Elisa Finland that were able to call in Finland, they also continue to work in Poland - you may call and answer phone calls using roaming, so technically it is possible that a Polish EU Citizen buys a Finnish prepaid SIM card, uses it for calling in Finland (inbound/outbound calls) and after she/he comes back to Poland they may continue call, using them in roaming. Why doesn’t Telia Finland want to give such a possibility to me???!!!

Why does Telia Finland as the only Finnish Operator not want to assure the possibility for Polish EU Citizens to have equal access to their services (inbound/outbound calls) in roaming, even if both the countries (Poland and Finland) are in EU and the European Law requires that Telia Finland must give the possibility to perform inbound and outbound phone calls in Poland, using prepaid SIM cards of Telia Finland!

On Monday, a consultant from Telia Finland promised me to help and he said he would create a ticked and would call me back to inform about the problem solution progress. He didn't... Another my phone call to Telia Finland Support and I tried to make understand that Telia Finland is obliged to assure the access to inbound/outbound calls for me in Poland in the same way as DNA and Elisa do. The Consultant asked her colleagues and answered that they offer the possibility to perform inbound/outbound phone calls for their prepaid SIM cards only for selected countries, such as: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, Germany, Italy and France, which is a severe infringement of the equal access to Services and Products for all EU Citizens Rule!

From what I can read here, for their prepaid SIM cards, Telia Finland finds it difficult to implement the possibility to perform the inbound/outbound phone calls but as I mentioned above, it is technically possible and all the Finnish operators offer that, except Telia Finland...

I don't want anyone to force me to use postpaid services! I want to use the prepaid Telia Finland inbound/outbound calls and I don't want the Operator to limit my freedom to choose what's better for me and I want them to treat all the Customers equally, according to the EU Law!

That's why I'm asking Telia Finland one more time to give me the possibility to perform inbound/outbound phone calls using the 3 prepaid Telia Finland SIM cards in Poland, using roaming. Our 3 telephone numbers are know to Telia Support.

Thanks and regards, Piotr from Poland.

We received an answer regarding the operation of prepaid subscriptions abroad. We have no obligation to offer subscription functionality in all countries. However, we are expanding roaming with prepaid subscriptions in Europe and other countries. As you were told by our customer service, the prepaid subscription currently works in Finland, the Nordics and the Baltics (i.e. Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and in selected EU countries (Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy and France).

I understand that it's frustrating when your prepaid subscriptions don't work in Poland, but we can't change them to work there now. In the future, I would think that prepaid subscriptions will work there, but at the moment the situation is that they only work in certain countries in addition to Finland.

This message and your feedback have been taken into account and forwarded to the responsible party, so we are now aware of your wish to have prepaid subscriptions work in Poland as well.

Hi, @HannaMarikaL

Do you have balls to say something more concrete than a mysterious  “We received an answer regarding the operation of prepaid subscriptions abroad” ??? Don’t you have the possibility to consult any lawyer in Telia Finland??? Do you need the Customers to contact them for you, in order to explain how it should work???

Isn’t really Telia Finland able to offer to the Customers anything more, instead of pulling the wool over the Customer’s eyes, by saying: “In the future, I would think that prepaid subscriptions will work there” ??? If you are a serious Company, I would expect you to contact me and say “Our Customers are important, this what we say is true and to prove that we would like to offer you the possibility to participate in a pilot process of implementation the inbound and outbound calls in Poland, using Roaming.”!!!!!!!

Many people who were given our 3 phone numbers of our prepaid Telia Finland SIM cards need to be in contact with us and you are blocking that possibility!!!

Demonstrate that what you have balls and that what you are saying is true!!!!!!!

Otherwise, I must tell you that it’s not only the fact of being frustrating but I’ll tell you more and ask:

How does the famous and advanced Fin-Tech really work, when looking at Telia Finland???

Don’t you feel ashamed that you left so much behind the other Finnish GSM Operators DNS and Elisa, who were able to do the trick and they give the possibility to perform inbound and outbound calls in Poland, using Roaming ???

Thanks and regards

@pekadwa

I understand that this situation really upsets you. However, the situation is that roaming does not work with our Prepaid subscriptions in Poland at the moment. We have agreed with the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom on the expansion of Prepaid roaming in the future, but at this moment it is not yet relevant. So we don’t have any pilot process ongoing right now. Customers are naturally important to us, that's not the issue here. The situation just is what it is.

On my behalf, I'm very sorry that you got into trouble with the subscriptions. Of course, in the purchase situation, you could have gone through which countries the subscription works in separately. In hindsight, that would have been a good thing.

@Merja_J

Once again I repeat that I expect That Telia Finland Employees to be more professional and true Ambassadors of their Company who really help their Customers, instead of continuously saying things like “The situation just is what it is”. Stop coming over! Nobody believes you! Fine words butter no parsnips! If you really care your Customers like me, then prove it!!! Give me, your Customer, who’s asking you and re-asking again and again your help anything concrete which would help to break the technological backwardness of Telia Finland, instead of covering every time my problem with another blah, blah, blah!!! This what you write is a real shame for a GSM Operator, when I read something like “We are so happy, because we were so clever to agree with Traficom that we don’t need to be in a hurry to implement the possibility to perform inbound/outbound phone calls in Roaming. Wow, they agreed that we do it in future, so it’s not yet relevant 😋. But anyway, yes Customers are naturally important to us 🤥

@pekadwa
At this point, we have nothing to add to the topic. Some reforms can be done quickly and some will take more time. This is about a bigger change and it won't happen in a day or two. It's still not about not valuing the customers.

@Merja_J

All of you - the Telia Finland Employees who participate(d) in this discussion did absolutely nothing = zero to help your Customer!!! If I’m wrong - tell me what kind of help you have offered to me…???

As a choir, instead of concentrate on how to help the Customer, you have been spending all your time to cover my messages with a non-value answers, to assure that you have no obligation to do any special effort and you continuously try to convince everyone that it’s extremely difficult, even if the rest of Finnish GSM Operators (DNS and Elisa) were able to do it!!! As far as I know you are in the absolute minority when talking about Nordic GSM Operators who do not offer the possibility to perform inbound/outbound phone calls, using Roaming.!!! Am I wrong, maybe??? Tell me, who else in the Nordic Countries is not able to offer it!!!

I cannot believe there’s absolutely no-one in Telia Finland who would be a little bit more creative to invent something… (e.g. prepare any workaround or a half-solution, whatever)...

I’m not expecting that you solve the problem “in a day or two”, but yes, I do expect that you express any deadline!!! Otherwise, your “in the featureis worth nothing and that it’s not true what you said that: “It's still not about not valuing the customers.” !!!

@Merja_J

All of you - the Telia Finland Employees who participate(d) in this discussion did absolutely nothing = zero to help your Customer!!! If I’m wrong - tell me what kind of help you have offered to me…???

Generally speaking:

  1. You got the info that there isnt any technical faults - our prepaid works as we have built it. Our prepaid works only in certain countries and Poland isnt included at the moment
  2. We have told that in the future there will be new countries where our prepaid will work

If you accept only the exact date when our prepaid works in Poland yes, you can say we haven´t helped you here at all. But I am sorry to say but we can´t give the date for you. We don´t have it at the moment.

try to convince everyone that it’s extremely difficult, even if the rest of Finnish GSM Operators (DNS and Elisa) were able to do it!!! As far as I know you are in the absolute minority when talking about Nordic GSM Operators who do not offer the possibility to perform inbound/outbound phone calls, using Roaming.!!! Am I wrong, maybe??? Tell me, who else in the Nordic Countries is not able to offer it!!!

As user @irritus mentioned earlier, prepaid is different than signed subscription. All the prepaids doesn´t work all around the world. I assume that in Poland there are providers with prepaids what doesnt work here as well. Prepaid isn´t such bulk product.

This prepaid roaming isn´t difficult, as is, but it is something you have to build separately with every country and with every provider.

By the way, you havent told that where did you buy our prepaids? From Helsinki, yes, but where? Did you ask from the salesperson that does the Telia Prepaid work in Poland? What did the salesperson said?

Also, can I ask why you bought Finnish prepaid and took them to your home country? I am asking this to understand your situation and usecase. Is it because your Finnish friends can call you from Finland to Poland with less costs?

But how “professionally” did you build the Telia Finland Prepaid? Based on what??? Was it implemented based on the assumption that only in selected countries the Customers deserve the possibility to perform prepaid inbound/outbound??? Why do you limit my freedom to access prepaid Products and Services that other Customers from Telia Finland can freely have???!!! Why don’t you treat me equally as the Customers from the above mentioned Countries???!!! How dare you apply exclusion and segregation to your Customers, me included???!!!

It’s more than one week and you are not able to present any deadline - when is Telia Finland going to start paying the technological debt???!!! Oh, I can’t believe it that a Telia Finland Employee prefers to simply admit to his Customer that they haven’t done anything for the Customer rather than say: “I promise to come back with a concrete declaration/deadline to you, if you could wait another week or two”!!!

Sorry, but it sounds ridiculous when you say “All the prepaids doesn´t work all around the world”, not because it’s written using incorrect English but because I have never asked you to make work Telia Finland Prepaid SIM cards all over the world!!! I’m only asking for the equal treatment of all EU Customers by Telia Finland Prepaid. Instead of it, Telia FinlaTelia Finland is applying segregation and exclusion to many of the Customers, me included - based on the country in which they live!!!👎nd is applying segregation and exclusion to many of the Customers, me included - based on the country in which they live!!!

Your assumption about Polish GSM Prepaid Operators is an absolutely wrong!!! Why don’t you do your homework, instead of saying such heinous fake news???!!! I Checked DNS and Elisa in Finland before I said that Telia Finland is backward-looking, being the only Finnish GSM Prepaid Operator who is not able to offer the possibility to perform inbound/outbound calls, using Roaming in Poland - correct???!!! Why do you force me to do your homework??? Aren’t you able to check how the situation really is in Poland, when talking about the possibility to perform the inbound/outbound calls in Finland using Roaming!!!???

As you were so lazy, I personally checked and confirm for you that all the Polish GSM Prepaid Operators offer the possibility to perform inbound and outbound calls in Finland, using Roaming!!!!!!! I googled and called the Customer Support of all the below Polish GSM Prepaid Companies:

1). Orange Poland - they offer their own prepaid SIM cards and you are able to call using it in Finland, using Roaming!!!!!!!

2). Nju Mobile - a virtual operator, who uses the Oranges Network is also able to offer the above!!!!!!!

3). Plus GSM - they also were able to implement the very, very, very difficult job which Telia Finland still doesn’t know when they might start!!!!!!!

4). Plush, who uses the Network of Plus GSM - these guys did also the hard job which Telia Finland has not yet even planned!!!!!!!

5). T-Mobile - has their own prepaid offer - and guess… you can call in Finland having such a prepaid, n Roming!!!!!!!!

6). Tu Biedronka - a virtual operator of T-Mobile was able to do the tremendous job which Telia Finland were not able…

7). Heyah - another MVNO of T-Mobile - the same comment as above.

8). Play - who offers Prepaids did the same good job which Telia FI says will be done in the future but noone knows if this will be in 2050 or later…

9). Red Bull had also the power to implement the calls in Finland in Roaming!!!!!!!

10). Virgin Mobile - the same as above!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that enough for Telia Finland to feel ashamed and backward enough to start planning to pay their technological debt…???!!! Or maybe I need to check all the other Nordic Countries to show how the situation is???!!!

If you finally understood that “This prepaid roaming isn´t difficult, as is, but it is something you have to build separately with every country and with every provider.”, why don’t you start to do it one by one, step by step, day after day,,,???!!! This is really something which I cannot understand and accept, as it shows that Telia Finland really blocks the access of many their Customers (me included) to their prepaid Products and Services. Telia Finland Telia Finland is applying segregation and exclusion to many of the Customers, me included - based on the country in which they live!!!

Otherwise, I don’t know what to say…??? Do you ignore your Customers??? Don’t you know that to make Business you should threat your Customers with respect to their needs??? Don’t you know that in Business DeadLines are crucial???!!!

Yes, we bought your Products in Helsinki, at the Central Station. The sales man had a big problem to sell it and had to do any trick, as far as I remember. Maybe that’s why he/she has forgotten to say “listen guys, from what I can hear you do not speak Finnish, so do not buy Telia Finland Prepaid Products as they work only in selected countries...💀

The use case is to promote Nordic Countries and to write technical reviews on blogs, including the way how the GSM prepaid services work in Finland - the most happy country in the world!

Once again, I need a deadline: Would you be able to say when you would be to prepare any workaround, half-solution, please? Otherwise, I understand that you want to provide additional great material for our technical reviews…???

Thanks.

Instead how our prepaid is built I think the correct question is how it is updated since. We added roaming roughly 1-2 years back, to the mentioned countries. Customers requested it long time and it was long process after we did it. I dont know how the countries were selected. I am sorry to repeat this but I dont have the date for you. But I promise to tell here in our community when it happens.

Yeah, I know. My English isnt so fluent. Our community is on Finnish, we have sometimes users who registers using translators. Of course we speak English here if needed but our main language here is Finnish.

What I ment with the “all around the world” is that when using prepaid you cant assume, without asking, does prepaid work in destination country.

Thanks, I am happy to be wrong about the Polish prepaids. But still, roaming with prepaid isnt guaranteed with every provider.

Thanks also for explaining the usecase, sounds very interesting. Sadly our prepaid fails here, in that sense. There isnt much to tell.

How dare you apply exclusion and segregation to your Customers, me included???!!!

And how come for example TVP dares to tell me Materiał nie jest dostępny w Twojej lokalizacji. Ze względu na ograniczenia licencyjne wybrany materiał możesz oglądać tylko w wybranych krajach?

Not that it would be the only media company to do so. I am sure that you don’t need to browse too long YLE Areena to get a similar message in Poland, too.

It's not the problem of the telephone models either because when we put Elisa/DNA prepaid SIM cards in these telephones, they work in Poland/Warsaw withount any problem.

Did you read the fine print of roaming with Elisa Saunalahti Prepaid?

Sure, it works in Poland, but take to trip to Germany or Czechia and try to send sms. Sorry, that is not possible. Or take a trip to Slovakia. Whoops, no signal.

Dna Prepaid has the best roaming of Finnish prepaids. The irony is, that this service was actually founded by Telia in October 2000. Back then it was called Telia City Kortti.

Unfortunately competition authorities forced Telia to sell off their Finnish mobile services in 2002 as part of TeliaSonera merger.

Go ahead and blame the European Commission for your sim not working in Poland. Because if they would have not forced Telia to sell off their Finnish mobile phone services in 2002, your Telia Prepaid would work just fine in Poland.

We added roaming roughly 1-2 years back, to the mentioned countries.

Telia Prepaid roaming started on 16th June 2020 with Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

Before that Telia Prepaid did not work at all abroad. Estonia, Poland, Sweden, all equally no service at all.

Later Telia Prepaid roaming has been extended to France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain as well as the original six countries.

@TeroRe, yes thank you for the possibility to write in English here and to express the expectations of a large group of your Customers. However, I have a problem to call a Great Success this what you or @irritus  have proudly underlined several times, i.e.: the Prepaid Roaming Inbound/Outbound Calls for the “Lucky Group” of Countries (Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain)… which means the exclusion and segregation of your Customers, based on where they live!!!!!!! Are you really proud of it that you stopped going in the right direction and now Telia Finland does not even have any plan to continue this important Implementation for other EU Countries???!!!

As I demonstrated, in Poland every GSM Operator (no matter if big or small) offers by default the Prepaid Roaming for every EU Country, treating every EU Customer in the same way and giving everyone identical access to Products and Services!!! I spent a lot of time to call the Support of each Polish GSM Prepaid Operator in order to verify for you that all of them offer these features and guess… They were surprised that someone might have implemented an incomplete set of EU Countries for Prepaid Roaming!!! For each Polish GSM Operator it’s obvious that each EU Citizen must have equal treatment and the same access for all EU Prepaid GSM Operators, in Prepaid Roaming!!!! None of these Companies complains that they needed to talk with every EU GSM Company to do so!!!!! They simply did such efforts for their Customers!!! Why doesn’t Telia Finland want to even plan when they start doing in the same way, for every EU Customer???!!! Why doesn’t Telia Finland do it for their Customers???!!! Haven’t you ever heard that: “If you don’t do it for the Customer, don’t do it at all”???!!!

When I look at all that from the Customers’ Prospective, I can see that you continue to preserve the current state of thing, which for your Customers means to intensify the bad image of Telia Finland, telling your Customers that you are not obliged to do it for us, your Customers (why??? Because we are not important for you???)... instead of making an internal pressure to ASAP pay the technological debt which Telia Finland has, in order to make the Customers quickly forget the negative impression of your backwardness!!!!!!! I really can’t get it...

Why do you prefer to lose time again and again, by applying new tricks and manipulations, trying to convince the Customer that I shouldn’t complain because TVP did not give you access to some of their materials???!!! If you paid for it, you can complain but to them, not to me - correct???!!!

From what I can read Telia Finland has been forced to sell a part of their business outside, which resulted in the missing Prepaid Roaming for Poland and other EU Countries. Well… yes, I’m sorry for that. However, now your Customers expect that you stop crying and rebuild the missing Feature, especially that you had 20 years to do so, as I read: “if they would have not forced Telia to sell off their Finnish mobile phone services in 2002, your Telia Prepaid would work just fine in Poland.

@TeroRe, it’s been almost 5 months - for when do you plan to implement the Prepaid Telia Finland Roaming to start working in Poland?

@TeroRe, it’s been almost 5 months - for when do you plan to implement the Prepaid Telia Finland Roaming to start working in Poland?

Unfortunately the situation is the same as before, and the schedule for expanding roaming is still open.
